
Kovalem, which means groves of coconut trees, is a small village in the
peaceful and quite village of Kovalem in the southern state of Kerala. Placed
along the Malabar Coastal region, the Kovalem beach is today one of the
favourite beaches in India for the tourists. Truly, the tall palm trees seen all
along the shores of the beach gives it a look of enthraling beauty. The blue
drop that sprinkle on the sandy beach after hitting the rocks along with the
palm fringed bays, promises a relaxed vacation to the tourist travelling to the
peaceful serenity.
A traveller’s paradise in the state of God’s own
country Kerela, the crescent shaped beaches of Kovalem are differentiated in
three parts. The southern most part consists of the Light house beach where
visitors can have a glance at the spectacular Vizhinzam mosque. The middle one
is the Hawah, that acts as the base for the local fisherman for earning a
livelihood out of fishing. The northernmost beach Samudra is the least
frequented and is a place to see the wooden fishing vessels.
Beach ActivityThe
coastal village enclosed by coconut trees and rocky headlands is a natural bay
for relaxation with the cold waves blowing past giving a touch of heavenly
sensation by the sea side. Aquatics, swimming and sunbathing are common
activities in the beach. Elderly peoples can be seen strolling bare footed on
the sandy shores and the youngsters playing with their surf. On the banks are
also placed variety of sea food stalls and beach restaurants which offer a
varied taste of local cuisines to the travellers. The village fishermen takes
out the adventurous visitors for a early morning cruising around the beach in
small fishing boats.

Napier Museum
The
Napier Museum considered a great architectural creation, represents the best
combination of the traditional Kerela style architecture with the Mughal and the
Chinese Influence. Designed in the 19th century by an English architect by the
name of Chisholm, it today houses a rare collection of archaeological and
historical artefacts.

» Padmanabhaswamy TempleDedicated to
Lord Vishnu, the temple houses the image of the deity reclining on the Anantha
serpent. The interiors of the temple consists of a tower created of seven
stories with high rising pillars and intricately decorated with mural paintings.
Only peoples from the Hindu religion are permitted inside the temple premises.
The temple is situated to the eastern side of the old fort ruins.
