Houseboat (Kettuvallam): Kettuvallams of Kerala are the stitched houseboats which provide the best way to experience the colourful backwaters of Kerala. The houseboats of Kerala are moving masterpieces of the majestic country crafts, measuring up to 80 feet in length. Earlier these "Kettuvallam" were traditionally used to cargo tonnes of goods across kingdoms, with portion covered with bamboo and coir serving as a rest room and kitchen for the crew. A familiar sight on the Backwaters, these vessels are built naturally without a single nail. Plants of jack wood are joined together and coir rope coated with caustic black resin made from boiled cashew kenels.

Houseboats tour on the Kerala backwaters at a leisurely pace with new sights, new sounds, new sensations with every new passing moment. Backwater cruise along the mirror-still Kerala lagoons, picture-book lakeside, palm-fringed canals, Kerala village life and shimmering rivulets of `God's Own Country' to make an enchanting holiday experience of Kerala. With a cruise along the palm-fringed waterways turning to be part among the tourist, the traditional kettuvallam has emerged as the mascot of Tourism in Kerala.
