Coorg, the vivacious district is characterised
by thick forests and mountains on the western ghats. Nestled in the state of
Karnataka, Coorg or Kodagu as the people call this little district is a
beautiful land painted with green with the blue Sahydari mountains to its
background. The high altitude place has an undulating landscape with dense
forested valleys,gurling mountain streams and waterfalls. The main agricultural
produce of the region is coffee and rice while Orange groves are in plenty.
Coorg was the place from where the
river Cauvery was born, from Bamboo, sandalwood, rosewood forests and Apiaries
making heavenly honey, the murmering streams and rivulets gives it a panoramic
view.Till recently it was one of south’s best kept secrets, when it was
discovered by the honeymooners,later it became the favourite destination of the

» Maddikari
The place of
Madikari is well known for the Ohmkareswara templededicated to lord Shiva built
with the architecture of Gothic an Islamic styles. The temple was created in the
year 1820 by Lingaraja II.The place has some important historical monuments.
Atop the hills stands the Madikari Fort built by The King of Kodagu. It was
repaired later by Tipu Sultan and came to be known as Jafarabad. One kilometer
from Madikar is the famous Raja’s seat, the place where the Kodagu kings would
view the sun set and the sun rise. The view encompasses emerald valleys,parrot
green paddy fields and the grey blue grags of the western ghats.
» Abbi Falls
Abbi which mean falls in Kodava dialects is a
beautiful waterfall 5 kms from Madaikeri.The water falls are inside a
privatelyowned coffee estate and is a big attractions for th tourists. Today it
has been bestowed as an wonderful picnic spot for the peoples living adjucent to
it.
» Omkarahswara Temple
Built by Kodagu King
Lingaraja in 1820, the temple is remarkable created with the design borrowed
from the Mohhamedan style having an impressive central dome with four minarets.n
The minarets are surrounded by Basavas or sacred bulls.There is a gilded ball on
the top of the domewith a special weather cock. The window panes of the temple
are lavisly decorated with brass bars. There is a large tank in front of the
temple that enhances its serenity.

from Madikeri in the Kodand ranges lies the spot where the holy river Cauvery
has her fonts.Legends belief that Lopamudra, the daughter of Lord Brahma, the
creator was given in marriage to the mythical sage Agasthya by her foster
father. Grieved and sorrowed Lopamudra turned herself in to waters and sought
asylum in the Kundu or the mountain cauldron. The waters of the pond turn
vibrant in the form of a bubbling spring every year on the 17th of
October.
